Great web design can improve your SEO
Before we drop you off to your final destination, we didn’t want to drive off without touching on one final and important piece of SEO advice that’s most exciting for us — how important your website design is when it comes to SEO.
Google is very committed to providing quality content to their users. (You might remember this from Lesson 3, which was all about how to create quality content). One of the ways Google decides if content is good for their users is by looking at user behaviour on your website.
What does that mean?
Great web design can improve your SEO. It enhances your visitor’s experience, and therefore affects how Google ranks you.
Even if you’ve implemented the knowledge we’ve shared about keywords and content on your website, people won’t hang around long if it’s confusing to navigate (especially on mobile devices).
Here are some user experience factors to keep in mind.
- Is your website mobile friendly?
- Can people find what they are looking for within the first 10 seconds?
- Does your website load as fast as it could?
- Is your website enjoyable to browse, with calls-to-action on each page to keep your viewers engaged?
Keep in mind: Google scans billions of websites daily. Time on page and bounce rate metrics play a pivotal role in telling Google what should be in the number one spot when people search online.
Basically, if your website user experience sucks, it will hurt your rankings. If your users can’t find the information they’re looking for quickly and easily, they leave. If your users aren’t captivated by your headlines and copy, they take off. If your website loads too slowly, they head out. Google notices this traffic behaviour and bumps you down in rankings.
The good news?
There are many things you can do to improve your SEO all on your own. If you feel you need a little help or just don’t have the time — that’s where we come in!
